“Either people or companies, the fundamental life principle is, when you break out of resistance you always come out stronger,” Jay Vijayan, founder of Tekion and the former CIO of Tesla tells me in this podcast.
“If you think about a seed that you sow in the ground, it really breaks off the ground eventually and goes on to become a plant or a tree bearing fruits. Same thing happens with eggs. When you break out of the shell, a life comes out of it. But when you break it from outside, life ends.”
There are some deep lessons in leadership, both the dos and the don’ts, from Elon Musk who Jay reported to at Tesla. At Tesla, Jay built Warp, the automaker’s homegrown ERP, which powered its unique processes, the way they were managed.
“I met him for the first time in 2010. He had the picture in his mind, then he had the capability to break it down and continue to execute. And that is not at all easy. From vision to breaking it down to execution, and executing it better than what was imagined,” says Jay.
